Four large Beijing stated-owned companies set up a joint venture company to engage in commercialization of patents. It will use intellectual property for equity investment, brokering transactions, analysis, consulting and other patent monetization.
Methods to commercialization patents, in addition to the joint venture itself working the patent, include sale of the patent, granting exclusive and non-exclusive licenses in one or more markets, granting a non-exclusive license coupled with know-how, sale of a subsidiary or spin-off holding patent assets, formation of joint venture subsidiary with investors holding complementary technology, and use of patent assets as collateral for financing purposes.
